What is the trick to keeping stretchy fabric from bunching up when sewing it together with another fabric?

I am making a blanket and I have tried to sew a piece of stretchy soft fabric with some other stretchy fabric and it bunches up really bad. Any advice? I am new to sewing. Thanks!

Try loosening the tension. Also, you may want to try a zig-zag stitch.

you should use a zigzag stitch instead of straight stitch and do not pull the fabric.

you really need to keep the tension on the fabric,
guide it with one hand and keep it tight, dont pull it, let the machine do that, just keep the fabric tight as you start to sew.

Use a strip of fusable webbing along the edge where you are sewing. Just make sure that you don’t get it past where you want to sew.

Bunches up? Humm. You might need a walking foot.

Knits are hard to sew with a regular straight stitch machine. The tension, needle and correct foot on the machine need to be used. Still the thread can break after it is stitched or sewn.

An overlock Machine is best suited for sewing knits.

I have a friend who sews all the time… She says to use a paper over the fabric, like a water-soluable interfacing… that way when you wash the fabric it will come out…….. it holds it steadier while sewing… also … gently push the fabric while running under the needle, dont let it hang down as it pulls it and stretches it……
